ABOUT

Our mission is to lead regional collaboration and spark local action to expand opportunity and improve quality of life. We do this through creative problem solving, innovative service delivery and support to our local governments.

We are Centralina.

Established in 1968, Centralina Regional Council (Centralina) was created to serve the needs of our nine-county region, which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. We are governed by a Board of Delegates, comprised of our member governments, and are one of 16 North Carolina regional councils (Centralina is referred to as Region F) authorized by the General Assembly. Regional Councils are public organizations that address regional issues and opportunities by offering a variety of planning, coordination, program management, advocacy and technical assistance services. These services are provided by our departments and affiliates.

Our regional framework offers a neutral platform where local governments from all nine counties can come together and shape area-wide planning. As a champion for the entire region, Centralina looks at creating holistic solutions that benefit communities of all sizes and strengthen our region’s competitive advantage on the national and international stage. To carry out our mission, we work among the regional, community and individual levels.

Individuals

We provide direct health, aging and workforce services.

Communities

We support elected officials, local governments and their staff by providing technical assistance, training and expertise.

Region

We identify opportunities and drive action by facilitating area-wide planning, collaboration and problem-solving across public and private sectors at the regional, state and federal levels.

Defining the Region’s Goals

Today, Centralina is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country and our home is quickly changing. Now more than ever, our region needs to work together to plan for a vibrant future.

To align our efforts, Centralina has defined the top four goals for our region based on input from our Board of Delegates, regional managers and regional partners. These four goals reflect the main pillars of our work.

Centralina’s FY23 Workplan provides more detailed information on each of these priorities, including specific goals, implementation strategies and services.

Centralina Board of Delegates

Regionalism could not exist without strong participation and collaboration among our local governments. We rely on 60 elected officials from the region to head our Board of Delegates and work together to advance our region.

The Board of Delegates is responsible for guiding Centralina’s policies and goals. It meets four times a year to approve the Centralina Regional Council budget, oversee our goals and selects officers to serve as chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer. It also elects members to serve on the Executive Board alongside elected officers. The Executive Board meets six times a year to provide greater leadership to Centralina on a regular basis. For more information about the Board, contact Narissa Claiborne.
