Job Requirements, Education, Special Skills, and/or Training:  General knowledge of firefighting techniques and procedures as applied to fire suppression.  General knowledge of fire prevention and pre-fire analysis strategies and techniques.  General knowledge of emergency medical techniques and procedures.  Ability to learn technical firefighting principles and techniques and principles of hydraulics as applied to fire suppression and the possession of mechanical aptitude.  Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergency training or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke.  Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations.  Some knowledge of  hazardous materials and accident extraction principles and techniques.  Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public. Work is performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazards.  This work may require exertion in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and feeling.  Vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.  Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken work levels.  Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.  The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self containing breathing apparatus.  The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Position Title:

Summary of Duties:   Oversees operation of all grounds maintenance contracts, maintenance of all gateways, Veterans Park, Dale Earnhardt Tribute Park, Village Park, the Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis Train Station, Kannapolis Business Park, and all current parks and recreation maintained medians and right-of-ways, as well as all other city property mowing.  Oversees all grounds maintenance contracts; Oversees facility maintenance at Village Park and other park facilities as assigned.  Responsible for the maintenance and care of over 500 trees.  Responsible for all city flower and pine needle installations.  Responsible for fertilization and weed control of all turf and ornamental areas.  Submits weekly written progress reports and operational data information.  Seeks cost effective operating measures as well as pricing information on job related needs.  Opens and closes parks when necessary.  Oversees and when necessary performs grounds maintenance, and beautification work, including mowing, trimming, trash collection and custodial duties.  Hires and supervises assigned full-time and part-time maintenance staff and community service workers.  Supervises and participates in the maintenance of athletic fields, parks, greenways and public open space.  Maintains grounds, prunes, trims and fertilizes hedges, trees and bushes; mows grass; applies herbicides and pesticides as necessary.  Interacts directly with Special Events Coordinator in production of Summer Concert Series and Movies in the Park.  Performs and documents playground inspections on a regular basis.  Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to operate maintenance equipment; ability to get along well with others; ability to work unusual hours, including nights and weekends.    

Minimum Education and Qualifications:   Bachelors Degree in parks and recreation or related field is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and training; must be at least 21 years of age.  At least three to five years in a supervisory parks and recreation position preferred.  Valid NC driver’s license with CDL endorsement or ability to obtain is required.  A safe driving history is also required.  A pesticides applicator license with public operator, category L is also preferred or applicant must be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.  Good knowledge of all types of park maintenance is required.  Must have or be eligible to receive CPRP Certification.  Also required is playground safety inspector certification (CPSI), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Position Title:                         Operation Specialist – Splash Pad / Train Operator (Part Time, Seasonal)

Summary of Duties:  Splash Pad Operator will open and close splash pad and restroom facility.  This position will also assist with the maintenance and daily operations of the pumps and mechanical functions of facility; be responsible for enforcing rules and regulations specific to the splash pad and ensuring safety of visitors; control admissions; selling concessions as needed.  The position will also maintain daily work records, including revenue reports and attendance records and work independently to provide superior customer service to guests and patrons.  Experience with aquatic facilities a plus. 

Train Operator drives and operates train through Village Park.  Job includes, opening and closing of train station facility; performing daily safety inspections of train and rails; daily maintenance and upkeep of train and associated areas, including track and station; maintaining daily work records, including safety reports and attendance records; working independently to provide superior customer service to train passengers and park patrons.  Experience with trains, engines, or mechanical repair a plus.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:  High school graduate or GED and a minimum age of 18 are required. Supervisory experience is preferred.  Must be certified in First Aid and CPR or have the ability to pass certification course.  Valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to hire and a safe driving history is also required.

Lincoln County

Senior GIS Specialist (Applications will be accepted until the position is filled):  An employee in this position performs difficult technical work in the operation and maintenance of the Geographical Information System mapping computer. Assists in developing user applications. Creates maps and data analysis for distribution to other departments when necessary. Rowan County

County Manager - Rowan County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of County Manager.  The County has a population of 135,000 and is located in the central piedmont area of North Carolina between Greensboro and Charlotte.  The County operates under a commission/manager form of government with a five-member board, 750 full time employees, and an annual general fund budget of over $140 million.
